Fantasy Friday XVI - Orc Melee Units

blatant7 writes: Alex Walz has released a showcase detailing the orc melee units of Dawn of Fantasy. While orcs may be lacking in armor and weapons compared to the nimble elves and the courageous men, orcs have a few tricks of their own. The orc infantry consist of three fearsome units: the Berserker, the Impaler, and the Slayer. Each unit has different strengths and weaknesses that must be utilized well for max efficiency.

Make sure to read the whole showcase here.

[This message has been edited by Blatant7 (edited 03-13-2010 @ 10:51 PM).]

It was sent via e-mail (To those who are in the closed beta). For that reason, it has been made public and archived on their site here.
Answer Revealed!

blatant7 writes: Alex Walz has revealed the answer to his Teaser Time challenge, which was to figure out the functions of the mystery tool he used to create yesterday's screenshot.

Take another look at the picture below.

Notice the bridge and the gazebo. Both structures were made entirely with barrels that were rescaled and rotated on their x, y, and z axes. This is just more proof of how simple it is for designers to manipulate objects into entirely new creations. I know we'll all have fun with this.

Fantasy Friday XIV - Human Archers

blatant7 writes: This week's Fantasy Friday, presented by Alex Walz, focuses on human archer units. Humans have two ranged units: the regular archers and the crossbowmen. The two units each have advantages and disadvantages, as well as a unique special ability.

Archers cost a bit less than crossbowmen, and have greater range and accuracy. However, crossbowmen do significantly more damage than their archer counterparts.

As for special abilities:

Regular archers can light their arrows on fire, resulting in increased damage and a chance at starting a fire. This comes at a cost however, as accuracy and fire rate are decreased.

Crossbowmen can toggle their weapon between a crossbow and a sword, making them very versatile in battle.

Both of these units can be trained at the Archery Range. You can also purchase upgrades for these ranged units.

Check out the full showcase here, and make sure to say a huge thank you to everyone at Reverie who was involved!

Fantasy Friday XIII - The Stronghold of Darssen

blatant7 writes: This week, Alex Walz has released a Readers' Choice showcase, based on the outcome of a stronghold poll in the Developer Blog.

Darssen is a haven for humans that borders the elven land of Nhob'ru. As one of the smallest strongholds in Mythador, Darssen is defended by only two walls and a cliff-top keep. Taking Darssen will not be an easy feat however, as a large cliff provides natural protection, and strategically situated choke points could result in a nightmarish rout for an enemy army.

As one of the smaller and poorer towns Darssen has a certain romantic quality that draws travelers from afar.
New Poll: Based on the projected system requirements, how confident are you that you will be able to play Dawn of Fantasy?

blatant7 writes: Our last poll has finally ended. We wanted to know whether you were planning to learn Lua to design scenarios/modifications for Dawn of Fantasy. 15% of voters already know Lua, while 21% are currently learning it. 27% of visitors plan on learning it soon, 13% think it will be too hard to learn, 6% say they will rely on someone who already knows it, and 19% would rather be slaughtering elves than learning a scripting language. Looks like we'll have a lot of scripters soon.

This time, we're asking how confident you are that your computer can handle Dawn of Fantasy based on the system requirements. They can be played as skirmish maps, or can be visited in the MMORTS mode of the game. They're immense, they're gorgeous, and they're characteristic of each of the races they provide for (be it mighty Orcish Makkada, or that feeble little Elf town Illis Tiltos). Stunning screenshots and detailed descriptions of the towns can be found in the showcase by clicking here

blatant7 writes: Our last poll has just ended. We wanted to know where you first heard about Dawn of Fantasy. An astonishing 73% of voters learned about the game at HeavenGames. 9% of visitors heard about it from another website, 13% were told through word of mouth, and 5% of voters first heard about the game through some other means. Interestingly enough, no one reported learning about the game from a magazine/article. Thanks to everyone who voted.

Our new poll was once again inspired by A Banned User. This time around, we want to gauge how much you would be willing to pay for Dawn of Fantasy. Are you determined to spend as little money as possible? Are you prepared to pay almost any amount for the game? Or are you somewhere in between? Vote now!

If you would like to nominate a future poll, post in our community forum and the DoFH staff will consider it. Thanks everyone!

Fantasy Friday II Update - A Look at Markets

Today we will be taking a look at Dawn of Fantasy's innovative, visually-represented market system. Each stronghold will have both a mercenary and a goods market in which players can interact with the merchant to buy or sell resources, livestock, or units. Enjoy and check back next Friday for a new showcase!"

I personally love the way the price of goods varies according to the region the market is in. This is realistic, and allows for a good bit of economic strategy.

See the whole showcase here.

Dawn of Fantasy Heaven Trivia Challenge

Go there to participate.

This is similar to the Trivia/Scavenger Hunt we had a while ago, with a few differences. Basically, every other day or so for a while I will post a question related to Dawn of Fantasy, and the first person to correctly answer the question receives a point, not a third stage beta key like before.

At the end of the challenge, the two people with the most points will each receive a second stage beta key, and the third-highest score receives a key to the third beta.

You may only give one answer per post, and you are not allowed to edit your posts. After you guess, you must wait for two more people to guess (not just post) before you can guess again.

So, do you think you're an expert on Dawn of Fantasy? If so, this is the place to prove it. Good luck!
